WHAT’S ON – APRIL 2026

Nature’s Calendar and Free Trees
The Woodland Trust’s Nature’s Calendar project invites people across the UK to track the changing seasons and understand how climate change is shaping them.

Participants log the first time they observe certain seasonal events, such as spotting frogspawn, hearing a song thrush or seeing blackthorn blossom, helping to paint a picture of seasonal trends across the UK. Start recording at Nature’s Calendar.

The Woodland Trust also offers free tree packs for schools and communities, giving groups the chance to plant native species that are well suited to UK soils. Applications are now open for packs arriving in November 2026, with applications expected to close in August. Educational settings, local authorities and not-for-profit community groups are all eligible to apply.

World Creativity & Innovation Day (April 21)
World Creativity and Innovation Day celebrates creativity in all its forms and highlights its role across human development. The creative industries, the United Nations notes, are among the most dynamic sectors globally, offering new opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into high-growth areas of the world economy.

Earth Day (April 22)
“We need people power to support the big switch to renewable energy,” says Kathleen Rogers, President of the Earth Day Organization (EDO). “We encourage everyone to talk to your local mayor, boss, neighbours, community leaders, and local and national legislators to explore and champion the transition to renewables.”

Earth Day 2026 falls on Wednesday 22 April. Activities get underway on Saturday 18 April, with events continuing through Earth Week and beyond.

The theme, Our Power, Our Planet, calls for global unity in supporting renewable energy. Take part by organising or attending events like beach cleanups, writing to your MP or exploring smart energy choices for your family. Find or register an event near you on the Earth Day website.

Fashion Revolution Week (April 22 – 28)
Fashion Revolution is the world’s largest fashion activism movement, calling for a clean, fair, safe, transparent and ethical fashion industry. This year’s theme is Collective Action – standing united as one voice. After more than eleven years of campaigning, the movement is focused on reigniting hope.

Mend in Public Day, part of Fashion Revolution Week, is a protest against disposable fashion, encouraging people to repair and reuse clothing to challenge the industry’s culture of excess. It takes place on April 25. Beyond events, Fashion Revolution invites everyone to ask questions, seek connection and take action – for a better fashion industry and the generations that follow. Find inspiration and ideas on the Fashion Revolution website.

Stop Food Waste Day (April 29)
Now in its 10th year, Stop Food Waste Day is the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste. Share tips, recipes and ideas on social media with #StopFoodWasteDay.
